Araceli Gilbert
Araceli Gilbert is the most important Ecuadorian painter from the 20th century. She introduced the non figurative art into Ecuador(Araceli Gilbert Biography).In 1936 Gilbert enrolled herself in the School of Fine Arts in Chile(Araceli Gilbert-wiki). In 1943 she is wins a triple prize: Painting, Sculpture and Art History Dissertation awarded by the School of Fine Arts( Araceli Gilbert Biography). Shortly thereafter, Gilbert moved to New York, where she studied at the Art School as a disciple of one of the fathers of post-cubist purism and takes an important step towards the development of her own style(Araceli Gilbert-wiki)In 1946, at the end of World War II, Araceli returned to Ecuador and moved to the capital city, Quito. In 1955 she returns from Paris and marries the Swedish writer, photographer and explorer Rolf Blomberg(Araceli Gilbert Biography). In 1960, she won the Second Prize. The next year she won the First Prize for painting at the Mariano Aguilera Salon in Quito(Araceli Gilbert-wiki) Gilbert died in Quito on February 17.
